How college changed my life:

During my first year of community college, I was unmotivated and lacked any real direction. My first steps were to enroll into the remedial courses I had tested into. Due to my poor high school performance, this was the price I now had to pay. I started my college career by taking basic English, Reading and Math classes. Upon attending these courses, it did not feel like college because most of my peers in class simply didn’t carry or act like one would expect; these students were disruptive, rude and near combative towards my professors. I took a step back and realized that I was in this course because I academically placed on par with these other students. I felt ashamed, embarrassed and knew I had to apply myself if I wanted to change my surroundings. Years later, I was one of the few to transfer to a four-year university.
