Welcome scholars and families, here's my story about how college changed my life:
During my first year of college, I was admitted on probationary status, assigned to two remedial courses, including English, and was barely passing my other classes (not for a lack of trying but because my best wasn’t good enough). I felt embarrassed, ashamed, and that college was somewhere I didn’t belong. I cried on the phone with my parents who drove out to see me because they could tell that I was in a crisis. They reminded me that I’ve faced overcome challenges like this before and education has never and will never be easy for me, but I always had the strength to persevere and do what I needed to do. I returned to my college and looked past these shameful hurdles and set the goal to place out of remedial courses, my probation status and of course TO GRADUATE. I attended the writing center completing multiple drafts of my papers, submitting and resubmitting all of my work, and attending the learning center for tutoring. Not only did I graduate on time in 4 years without ever failing a course, but I made my entire family proud when I was the first to graduate from college and prove them right.
