Dear Alliance Families,
Yesterday, each of our schools successfully launched Distance Learning! The scholar attendance rate was impressive––some schools reached 98% attendance!––meaning we are still able to connect with our scholars through difficult and ever-changing circumstances. I know that scholars, educators, and school leaders were excited to reunite virtually with each other once again.
As our first Distance Learning school day came to a close, our Governor and State Superintendent provided direction that all California school campuses should remain closed for in-person instruction through the end of the school year.
The health and safety of your scholar and our staff is top priority so Alliance will follow the new guidance by state officials. This means your scholar will finish the current school year through Distance Learning and not return on campus. I am incredibly grateful for your partnership. Daily attendance is key and, as always, you play an important role in your scholar’s dedication to their studies.
I also acknowledge how difficult this situation is for you and your scholar. Over the last three weeks, we heard from many of you that Alliance schools are a second home where scholars and families feel supported and welcome. The decision to extend Distance Learning through the end of the school year was difficult and one made with a heavy heart. I believe the Alliance community will rise to the challenge and support each other. Whether we are in class or online, please know that Alliance’s commitment to your scholar’s education and well-being never wavers.
Alliance was founded on the belief that all children are capable of achieving at high levels. Please know that despite our distance, we are still guided by this mission and we are dedicated to meeting the needs of our scholars and families even in the face of unprecedented obstacles.
For our culminating eight graders and our high school seniors, the social distancing order will also impact their end-of-year celebrations. We will work with your Principal to identify solutions for these important events, including the end of year celebrations, the transition to high school and college, prom, graduation, and summer school.
In closing, if your child needs access to technology (WiFi or a device), please call Alliance’s information technology team (213) 340-4355 as soon as possible. It is more important than ever for your child to have the technology needed to take part in Distance Learning until the end of the school year.
